5 Company Departments, 1 Hat

When I worked in the corporate world, one of my favorite things to do was to go to another department and raise a little bit of hell. Or, lay on their floor if my stress level was running on red. When you’re launching your real estate business, you are going to be a guy or gal of many hats. In the beginning you are going to be managing all of the following departments:

CEO

Marketing Manager

Finance and accounting

Project manager and paper pusher

Real Estate agent

When I realized I had to be all these things all at once, I wanted to lay on someone’s floor. In the beginning it’s going to feel like a lot and who the heck knows how to be a great CEO on day 1? What can help is to get clear on what each roll does and block time for each department. Larry Kendall (Ninja Selling) brilliantly says, “work ON your business in the morning, and IN your business in the afternoon”. If you’re organized and prepared, I guarantee you, you won’t be laying on anyone’s floor and you can focus on raising a little bit of hell each and every day.
