The One Thing

I still remember it like it was yesterday.

The announcer was screaming “he’s as high as an angel goes without an airplane” when an 18-year-old kid from Philly put on a Laker’s jersey and had the world astounded as he soared to dunk over a seasoned Denver Nugget’s giant. It was awesome. It was epic. Kobe Bryant was praised with statements like “he has such a gift. Such a talent.” They compared him to Michael Jordon – the greatest basketball player of all time.

No one seemed to EVER talk about how he became that way.

The one thing – is preparation.

Kobe practiced for 4 hours every day in high school while the rest of his friends were eating soggy fries in the cafeteria. He was rich with passion for the thing he wanted to be the best at and sacrificed for it. He developed his craft with a “no-lose” mindset.

To be a successful real estate agent, you too must develop your craft like the world depends on it. That is how you will set yourself apart. Here’s an exercise to help get you started.

Things to prepare:

1)    Do you have a buyer’s packet to give to new prospects?

2)    Do you have a listing presentation developed and practiced?

3)    Do you have business plan outlined?

4)    Do you have a defined group of people to market to?

5)    Are you asking yourself single day, “what can I do today to move towards my goal?”

The truth is, you won’t wake up one day and be a stellar real estate agent. You have to put in the “shots and miss them”, before you make the sweet game-ending three pointer everyone talks about.

I’d love to hear how you’ve work to prepare and what the outcome was once you were ready for the game. Did it change your confidence? Help motivate you to the next step in your awesome and epic journey to the top? Let’s hear it.

Until then, keep your feet moving, chin up … and burn the white flag.
