Worth

“You need to just accept this. I understand you’re frustrated to learn you earn less than other people who do your job. But it happens all the time. You are no different” was the not-so-sage advice I received from an employer once.

Actually, it was some of the worst advice I’ve ever received in my entire life.

His message was, your worth is defined by what everyone else is willing to receive or give you.

Nothing can be further from the truth.

Here’s the game you’re in.

You do not have to accept anything that is less than what you believe you are worth. In fact, you unconsciously are the creator of your worth right now.

 For instance:

-       Accepting $10 instead of $50 in compensation, is a choice.

Do a little more work and receive more. It’s that simple.

-       Surrounding yourself with low level thinkers, is a choice.

It’s not hard to source out people who inspire you to play on a whole new level.

-       Keeping someone in your life that treats you poorly, is a choice.

Clean house of folks that are dragging you down or repeatedly treating you in a way that doesn’t allow you to shine.

-       Accepting your personal flaw as a fixed situation instead of something to grow into or out of, is a choice.

If you have a habit that is in your way to success, summon every resource to fix it.

Challenge Exercise:

1.     Write down one thing you’re accepting right now that is not in line with your goals.

2.     Write down how it is impacting your life. (and be honest)

3.     Write down a new belief about what you want that is positive.

4.     Brainstorm 3 ways you can actively set to change it in the next 30 days.

5.     Go back and review in a month to see what impact you made.

If you do this, in just one area of your life, trust me, things will start to change. Stop accepting what someone else tells you you’re worth. Know what you want and have the confidence to live it.

I’m happy to report that my response to the deadbeat boss was, “maybe that’s okay for you, but it isn’t for me.” And I respectfully quit.

I’d love to hear what changes you made and what impact this challenge made for you and your business. Leave me a comment.

Until then, keep your feet moving, chin up … and burn the white flag.
