Hello, CEO

“The greatest gift of leadership is a boss who wants you to be successful.” – Jon Taffer

His name was Paul, and he was the best boss I’ve had to date. I was a young and spry copywriter that just landed her first writing gig at a 50+ radio station in Toronto, Ontario.

To this day, I’m still grateful for how Paul handled the minor misstep I made when I wrote and aired a pet food campaign that featured a story about dog who ate, and shat crayons. But that’s a story for another time that ended with me writing a public apology in the local newspaper.

I digress …

The five best things Paul departed on me as my leader were:

-       Work ethic

-       Fairness

-       Accountability

-       Producing quality over quantity

-       Gratitude is an attitude

Knowing Paul altered how I viewed the business world for decades to come. When I started my Real Estate business, I realized how important these lessons were and contributed my success.

The very second you passed your exam, you became the CEO of your company.

So, I ask you, what kind of leader are you going to be? Do me a favor and write down the top three things your company stands for and how YOU as CEO are going to get it there. What force are you going to be in this business? Write it down and put it in a place where you can see it often.

If you’re willing, I’d love to hear what you decided on. Maybe you can help inspire others to be a kickass CEO too!

Until then, keep your feet moving, chin up … and burn the white flag.
