A Less Lonely Road – The Coach

I was recently featured in an interview on the Think Bigger Real Estate Show. The host, Justin Stoddart, suggested to me that being a real estate rook is a lonely place to be. I agree whole-heartedly and would like to share with you what I did to help me along in my first years of real estate.

Over the next few weeks I’ll introduce you to the four positions you need to “hire into”. They brought with them in varying degrees;: experience, support, guidance, and inspiration. So, let’s get to finding yours.

Position #1 – The Coach

Characteristics:

·      A natural leader

·      Loyal

·      Supportive

·      Motivating

·      A forward-thinker

·      Able to guide you when you are off course

·      Trustworthy

·      Does not need to be in the real estate business, but should have a business mindset

·      Ultimate confidant in your life

·      Believes in their bones your ability to succeed and wants to help you get there

·      Challenges your methods

Exercise:

  1. Make a list of everyone in your life that holds the above attributes.

  2. Reduce the list to 3 names that fit the best.

  3. By the end of this week, set up a face-to-face meeting with all three

  4. Discuss with them your goals, and see if their advice on how to get there is in line with your value system.

  5. Choose a Coach and stay connected with them throughout this year. When you reach a benchmark of success, share it with your Coach. When you reach a hurdle, share it with your Coach. They are the first pillar in your business foundation.

Next week, we will talk about a mentor. So, do this week’s work so we can get on with the next position next week. I’d love to hear how your meetings went and what you learnt about another person or yourself during this exercise.  Leave me a comment below.

Until then, chin up, keep your feet moving … and burn the white flag.
