How's The Engine Running?

Consistency drives results. The more steadfast you are at prospecting for new clients, the faster you will generate sales and grow your business. This same principle can be applied to consistently seeking and ingesting current information and new skills. As a new real estate agent, I'm sure this is drilled into your brain constantly.

Maybe you hear it so much that it starts to lose that spark it gave you when it was new to your ears. Similar to how saying a word over and over out loud starts to lose its meaning after a while.

There is a term for this, I've learned.

"Semantic satiation is a psychological phenomenon in which repetition causes a word or phrase to temporarily lose meaning for the listener, who then perceives the speech as repeated meaningless sounds."

Try it out. Say "banana" repeatedly. How did it feel hearing it the first two times you heard yourself say it?

Perhaps, you start off saying this with confidence and conviction because, well, you know what a banana is. After saying it about 20 times in a row, what does it sound like to you now?

Confusion? Gibberish? Another language outside of your native tongue, perhaps?

Yes, the things that we rely on to motivate us sometimes lose steam and no longer have the same effect. Especially when all of the smiles and dials and prospecting is generating nada.

So I understand how it's tempting to give an eye roll when you hear millionaires' advice on how to become millionaires. Here's something to remember: successful people have failed at some point, but the trick is always learning new ways to get it done and get it right.

"Invest in yourself. Your career is the engine of your wealth."

Ahh...this quote gets me right in the feels, but I can't take the credit. This is from Paul Clitheroe, one of the brains behind Money magazine and guess what his superpower is? Yup, financial insight.

If something used to light a fire for you is dwindling, actively seek new sources for motivation, perspective, and knowledge. That's how I stumbled on Paul Clitheroe, and I found some inspiration and financial tips to apply to my real estate business.

The point I want to drive home is: don't stop learning once you get licensed. Continue to invest time and money into learning new things. Always stay on the knowledge train.
